Outlook authentication error 5.7.8 - Microsoft Community


5.7.8 bad username or password (authentication failed). error code -17900

 

accounts have been accessing years via ms outlook on mac started doing today. 

 

two mac.com addresses - have rebooted - have cleared keychain - have double checked settings - checked latest updates mac os x , office - have logged accounts via web , 1 of them via mac mail - in outlook (office 2011) - both giving errors if cannot accessed using software. (similar yahoo is, suspect, different question entirely. 

 

macbook pro 2011 - macos sierra 10.12.5 - office 14.7.5 (170531)

 

the problem today specific imap.mail.me.com , smtp.mail.me.com accounts - aol account, isp account, , private exchange account working. isp account give errors suspect because computer , phone cannot updating simultaneously. problem me.com has been ongoing since @ least morning , cannot send or receive using outlook.

i have tried using .mac instead of .me - think apple change few years ago use .me now. ( https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2648915/microsoft-outlook-for-mac-compatibility-with-apple-icloud ) , tries delete folders - perhaps recreate them. 

i tried using time machine roll main identity 15th - trigger database rebuild. 

this started sometime on june 16th despite no changes made on end. 

perhaps first step giving using ms software. 

two-factor authentication turned off on account.

based on description, using 2 email account on outlook. 1 icloud account , other 1 exchange account. since exchange account works fine, outlook client should work normally. did try generaling app password icloud account? delete icloud account , using app specific password re-add outlook mac, work?

generate app-specific password

sign in apple id account page.
in security section, click generate password below app-specific passwords.
follow steps on screen.
after generate app-specific password, enter or paste password field of app normally.

Outlook Rules not Running Automatically - Microsoft Community

i have 3 rules in outlook 2013 installation set when email arrives check words in body, subject or header.  the rules not seem run automatically.  when run rules manually seem work fine.  i've had problem quite while.  recently, created new outlook profile did not fix issue.  i went , changed srs file srs.old did not fix either. please provide me suggestions fix. hi neil, in order isolate issue, we'd following information: have made recent changes or applied update device prior issue? which email account using? personal email account or work email account? for initial troubleshooting, suggest deleting rules , create again. this, may refer article below: manage email messages using rules looking forward response.
