Sharepoint 2013 Designer workflow issue "Server-side activities - Microsoft Community


problem: creating spd 2013 workflow generates following error

 "server-side activities have been updated. need restart spd use updated version of activities"

os: windows 10

sharepoint designer version: microsoft sharepoint designer 2013 (15.0.4787.1000) mso (15.0.4937.1001) 32-bit sp1

attempted fixes:

(1) clearing cache

removed contents from

  1. c:\users\<username>\appdata\roaming\microsoft\sharepoint designer\proxyassemblycache
  2. c:\users\<username>\appdata\local\microsoft\websitecache
  3. c:\users\<username>\appdata\roaming\microsoft\web server extensions\cache

unchecked "cache site data across sharepoint designer sessions" in spd application options

(2) uninstalling workflow manager client 1.0 installation

no installation found.

(3) reinstalling spd 2013 + removing settings

as (2), removed local/microsoft/sharepoint designer/ folder in %appdata%

also tried sharepoint 2013 without sp1

5) reinstalling visual studio 2017

did not work
