hi joe,
i may need more details below:
- by “hybrid environment active directory , exchange in office 365”, mean there in-premises exchange server? have deployed exchange hybrid?
- are using aad connect sync tool?
- is distribution list created on-premises active directory , synced office 365?
- is there error message when add shared mailbox distribution list?
actually, needn’t assign more permissions. if distribution list synced on-premises active directory office 365, cannot edit members in office 365. need add members on-premises active directory , sync them office365.
i suggest try following methods achieve goal:
method 1: can re-create on-premises user , match him/her shared mailbox referring article:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2641663/how-to-use-smtp-matching-to-match-on-premises-user-accounts-to-office-365-user-accounts-for-directory-synchronization
method2: delete shared mailbox> create new ad user> sync him/her office 365> assign license> convert shared mailbox.
if above cannot meet requirement, please provide detailed environment information , detailed steps on how create shared mailbox , distribution list.
best regards,
vanessa
