i have enterprise user using mac outlook 2016 on el capitan 10.11.6. outlook shows trying sync 1 item. can send/receive other email fine. there nothing indicating "unread."
on windows pc, outlook 2016 synced fine without errors.
i tried having him remove profile on mac, , create new profile. sync back. has done this, there still notification of 1 item synching.
in meantime, have migrated on-site exchange office365. outlook 2016 pointing correct outlook.office365.com server well. sync issue remains.

since works in outlook 2016 windows, account should ok, issue can related specific outlook 2016 mac client. i’d conform following information narrow down issue:
1. the detailed version of outlook mac (open outlook>click outlook in taskbar>about outlook). please make sure it’s latest version on side.
2. could provide more details symptom “his outlook shows trying sync 1 item”, screenshots
3. please start mac in safe mode so performs checks , prevents software automatically loading or opening.
4. navigate windows in task bar, click sync status to check if there wrong.
5. please provide troubleshooting logs through private message.
a.navigate windows> sync error> tick turn on logging troubleshooting.
b.restart , reproduce issue experience
c.from finder, under go menu> go folder
~/library/containers/com.microsoft.outlook/data/library/logs
d.turn off logging.
