i have done tests on lab (outlook 2016 mac 15.31 170117) cannot reproduce issue. suggest follow steps below re-index search database mac outlook.
1. open terminal going applications --> utilities --> terminal
2. type "mdimport -l"
3. if see more 1 instance of microsoft outlook spotlight importer.mdimporter, delete outlook application not using, empty trash, restart mac, , go step 1.
4. re-index outlook database using following command, substituting own <user_name>:
mdimport -g "/applications/microsoft outlook.app/contents/library/spotlight/microsoft outlook spotlight importer.mdimporter" -d1 /users/<user_name>/library/group\ containers/ubf8t346g9.office/outlook/outlook\ 15\ profiles/main\ profile
note in command above path after "-g" default path outlook installed. path after "-d1" default path profile. have substitute actual paths if have renamed profile or installed outlook in different location.
5. after starting command in step 5 take time complete re-indexing. please wait until re-indexing completes.
6. quit , re-launch outlook.
if issue persists after performing steps above, need collect information investigation:
- regarding “search function has stopped working”, please share more details? example, mean search box grey or there no result after searching keywords? screenshots symptom preferred.
- can see emails want search out in mailbox?
- the detailed version of outlook, such 15.31 (170117). this, click outlook > outlook.
