hi
i have project plan in ms project 2013 late, scheduled completion last month , has been completed (3 weeks late). how can record 100% complete still record fact completed after scheduled completion date?
i don't want lose track of task expected date , actual completion date, if set % complete 100% it's status completed per scheduled date, wasn't, have put note in task field remind me late there other way this?
many assistance.
baseline recommended, not essential, or not enough. when update progress status of tasks in plan, save copy of file first, can refer see plan before update. end lot of incremental versions of plan. in construction business need keep kind of progressive history inevitable dispute.
baseline needed in order calculate variances and, if must, ev.
you mention "expected date" , "scheduled date". scheduled date not "expected date", , task not "late" because not start , finish scheduled. plan not bus timetable. actual start , actual finish dates different scheduled dates, later, earlier. scheduled dates earliest possible dates. every task scheduled asap, , nice if started , finished asap, don't.
a task can start , finish anywhere within total slack without delaying finish date of project.
whether actual start , actual finish later scheduled asap dates problem, whether serious concerned about, depends on effect of actuals on rest of plan.
you need schedule table see earliest dates, latest dates , free , total slack.
do not set % complete 100% because forces msp assume task started , finish scheduled, because has nothing else go on.
as have seen, results in incorrect actuals. if in past, relative status date, means reporting incorrect actuals plausible, because @ least in past. worse if scheduled dates in future, because reporting progress made in future, eg "we laid bricks next week".
do not ever type in % complete @ all. 1 of common mistakes made in using msp.
use tracking table input actuals, , if necessary re-estimate remaining duration if task not yet finished.
any help?
