Transferring Window 8.1 from a Surface RT to Surface Pro4 - Microsoft Community


i have surface rt came office 8.1 formatted on it.  want upgrade surface pro4 , want know if can transfer new machine doesn't automatically come office on it.

office home & business, office home & student, , office professional can installed on single computer. if try install , activate these versions of office on different computer (owned or else), or on same computer after hardware change, might see error message have reached maximum number of activations.

note: if own multiple one-time purchases of office , having trouble activating subsequent office installs, see change office product key.

if follow transfer terms in software license terms, can move office different computer, must activate phone , uninstall office original computer. here's how:

  1. if haven't installed office on computer yet, follow instructions in install office on pc or mac.

  2. follow steps in activate telephone, described above.

  3. uninstall office from original computer.

  2. go to file > account > about program name (like about excel) > view microsoft software license terms.
