hi mark,

it seems issue can solved creating new user account. if yes, issue may caused previous user account corrupted.

given situation, suggest try steps below see if issue goes away when log mac previous user account.

1. check if there update in operation system. if yes, update see outcome.
2. open terminal window

a. @ command prompt, enter this exactly including spaces

sudo /usr/libexec/repair_packages –repair –standard-pkgs /

b. enter admin password , wait time.

if there errors, display , repaired.

if there no errors, displays nothing.

3. boot mac in safe mode.

a. press power button.

b. after hearing start-up tone, press , hold shift key.

c. release when see gray apple icon , progress bar.

d. once safe mode loaded, open finder window.

e. press cmd-shift-g.

f. type in ~/library/caches to go caches folder.

note: totally removing cache not recommended save backup of cache files before deleting them. if happens, can restore old files using backup.

g. restart mac check result.

meanwhile, can use new account work powerpoint 2016 mac.
