Deleting emails from an archiv PST file - Microsoft Community


on outlook 2010 have auto-archiving set remove old emails after period of time main pst file emails received.

what try , run archive on archive pst file outlook using , remove archived emails prior date.

is there way either permanently or move them archive file can disconnect outlook , move pst file external storage device , thereby free disk storage on system?

splitting .pst file can done via archive feature in outlook.

can split yearly archives (or other amount such quarterly, or every year), can run archive process multiple times, each time new .pst file.

we must configure outlook archive based on received date rather modified date. way, prevent emails have been modified or imported after archive date remaining in main .pst file.

to split .pst file, follow steps below:

  1. open archive dialog. file > cleanup tools > archive…
  2. select: archive folder , subfolders.
  3. click on top level folder select entire mailbox rather selected folder.
  4. set “archive items older than:” date 1st of january of year after want create first archive for. if want create first archive 2012 , previous, set date 1st of january 2013.
  5. optionally, check option: include items “do not autoarchive” checked.
  6. specify name , location .pst file 2012 , previous. sure location on local computer , not network share.
    example: d:\documents\outlook files\2012.pst
  7. click ok.

after archiving has finished, repeat above steps specify different date in step 4 , different name in step 6.
