PowerPoint 2013 secondary display content removed when connection - Microsoft Community

working on broadcasting system company built, , ran funny issue. powerpoint's infamous presenter mode documented have questionable programming decisions. however, our system has discovered related issue caused powerpoint mucking in display settings.

to illustrate system better, based off simple hdmi switch:

regardless of mode run presentation in or display setting start out in (extended vs duplicate), if switch source changed off of computer, later, "secondary display" of computer not show powerpoint presentation running (just shows desktop). may vary depending on switch use - switches keep computer's output connected, not displayed.

in case, have found applying registry fix found @ linked thread and disabling presentation mode before running presentation not cause bug manifest. wanted throw out there people know about.

for reference, i'll copy registry fix here:

if you'd have powerpoint 2013 automatically go back "duplicate" after leaving slideshow, need add following information windows registry:

[hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\office\15.0\powerpoint\options]
"restoretopology"=dword:00000001

for not familiar editing registry, here's easy way:

  1. create new file in notepad
  2. copy , paste following:
  3. windows registry editor version 5.00

    [hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\office\15.0\powerpoint\options]
    "restoretopology"=dword:00000001

  4. click "save as"
  5. name file "update.reg" (the .reg part important!)
  6. click "save type" , choose "all files (*.*)" (this important!)
  7. click "save" exit dialog
  8. close notepad
  9. double-click file created
  10. say "yes" prompts (there should two)

if you'd learn more editing registry, this article provides more useful information.
