How/where to get the attachments listings line re-enabled in - Microsoft Community


firstly, post has absolutely nothing actual physical attachments or @ html, rtf, or text or , how attachments being attached or physically displayed (each format locates attachment differently, example).  not @ all.  saying issue isn't confusing.

question how outlook 2010 list again names of attached files separate line under regular labels in reply,  reply , forward, sort of this:

from:
to:
subject:
attachments:

i've been in places happens automatically.  increasingly isn't being done (i'm guessing holidays no longer automatically deployed , each , every time have ourselves).  attachments listing not being enabled serious problem, 1 cause one's organization being sued, etc., have nothing on paper (even pdf "printouts" don't show line)!  in current job, we're dealing different versions of documents attached in law enforcement environment.  problem long threads of messages if message within thread says like, say:

"i'm attaching version latest updates on policy department a"

details attachment lost later on in thread there no label telling file(s) or were!  people getting original message given attachment(s) okay.  , that's no on correspondence follows.

it's important in our case use document management system automatically adds version numbers.  example, i'm in sweat right on situation have thread going has several references documents , on monday i'm going have go try see if have original emails that's way we'll know version given block in thread referring to!  have hope c.c.'ed in each instance on original emails containing attachments!  so, needless say, it's going pain next week!  (and that's why, again, became aware in new job behaviour turned off here!)  again this!  not expected each new contract haven't remembered first off.

i've come potential conclusion in last couple of days perhaps listing issue must perhaps edit of form companies used default (?).  can't think _why_ attachment listing isn't on default remember years ago seemed makes absolutely no sense default micro$oft has turned off.  no sense @ all.  liability issue alone ms face!  nope, can't see how turned off.

i've dabbled couple of times years ago form editing i'm not experienced.  after spending couple of hours searching information on net, i'm no closer resolution , i'm not sure i'm on right track.  ended in "frequently-used fields" on 1 of tabs in design mode , found attachments option, it's greyed out , defaulting no in version of outlook.  anyway, things outlook version don't matter here, i'll on outlook 2010 @ work on monday - wanted know if way turn listing attachments on in body of emails whether reply, reply all, or foward.

p.s., added benefit of having reduce clutter again as, in end, need keep complete thread final document sent.  if can attachments listing show again in message bodies, having document names enough previous versions listed available in document mgt application.

if outlook messages in reply or reply , forward can list sender, recipient, date , time - must still intelligent enough list attachments.  here sort of example of mean.  please see line labelled "attachments":

from:  person b
to:  person c
subject:  re:  item in question

person c, team submit resolution on item b in paragraph 2 in issues spreadsheet provided person below?

any re determining feature controlled if not in editing message form appreciated.  it's been feature in past outlooks long 20 years ago must still available, not turned on somehow.

for further isolate issue experiencing, kindly respond questions below:

  1. have made software changes device prior issue?
  2. are connected through domain server?
  3. have checked if office app using updated? if not, kindly update app , see if settings there.

you may use instant search to find email messages include attachments:

  1. in folder pane, click inbox or folder want search.
  2. at top of message list, click in instant search box or press ctrl + e.
  3. on search tab, in refine group, click has attachments.

for outlook 2010, default, selected mail fold searched , results appear in message list. if no results found, may expand search mail folders, clicking try again in mail items in message list area. if search results appear, item you're seeking doesn't appear , think might in different folder, click try searching again in mail items in message list area.
