outlook 2016 shortenes a file name when copy-and-paste a file as - Microsoft Community


hi everybody.

 

since 1 week ms office outlook 2016 program on windows10 shortens the file names of files copy out of windows explorer , paste (or drag-and-drop it) e-mail (html-formatted).

 

for example:

 

a

  • [91 characters].pdf

file name turns

  • [72 characters]….pdf

 

a week ago windows 10/outlook 2016 system worked 5 months well. before these 5 months had same problem 2 weeks. set windows newly , outlook 2016 working without shortening file names.

 

do have me?

there several factors why you're having issue office program. isolate what's causing these errors, know following information:

  • have made changes settings prior issue?
  • does happen when copying windows explorer?

in meantime, suggest run offcat (office configuration analyzer tool). highlights known issues , problems experiencing in office programs. may refer link, guidelines , steps.

we recommend start outlook in safe mode and see if issue persists. this:

  1. choose start > run.
  2. type outlook /safe, and choose ok. note: there space between outlook , /.
  3. in choose profiles dialog box, accept default setting of outlook , choose ok.
  4. if prompted, enter password , choose accept.

if outlook start in safe mode, disable add-ins. here steps:

  1. in upper-left corner of outlook, choose file > options > add-ins.
  2. at bottom of view , manage office add-ins, make sure manage box shows com add-ins, and choose go.
  3. as precaution, when com add-ins listing of current add-ins opens, 1 of following: manually record title of every selected add-in listed under available add-ins or take screenshot of property sheet , save image location of choice.
  4. after you've captured titles of selected add-ins, clear selected check boxes, , choose
  5. choose file > exit.
