Something went wrong and your search could not be completed - Microsoft Community

split thread.

any resolution this? last week laptop received o365 update, , ability search within search folder replaced same message posted - "something went wrong..."

searches in inbox, or 'plain' folders work - have been searching within search folders years.

my desktop has received o365 update, , "broken".

same exact issue.

hi edk_13,

firstly, i’d know if can find emails contains “mstorck” in mailbox. try searching “mstorck” in outlook web app to determine whether problem related email account.

if find search not working 1 specific pop account or pst file check path of pst data file , make sure correct.  in outlook click file, account settings, account settings click data files.  under location , see if of paths unc based such \\?\c:\users\username\documents\outlook files\file.pst.  fix click settings , see if can manually fix path.  if not, remove pst , add back.

normally after fixing unc path , restarting outlook search start working again or shortly thereafter.  if fixed path not take affect in half our or so go trigger re-index , should in time, search, search tools, search options, indexing options, advanced, rebuild.

the bad unc path have happened if created new profile including setting outlook new on machine in february or march before pst search bug fixed.  reference fix, https://support.office.com/en-us/article/outlook-search-stops-working-after-updating-to-build-7870-2020-and-higher-0bcf0b06-320d-40c3-8cf0-7e3df90793ed?ui=en-us&rs=en-us&ad=us.

meanwhile, customers reports issue has been resloved windows update:

kb4022726 in windows 8.1
kb4022715 in windows 10
, kb4022725 in other sytems

let me know outlook client version details.
